Barnhart family ledgers [manuscript], 1820-1911.

Two account books of Gideon Barnhart, 1847-1871 and 1869-1883, contain entries for beef and mutton sold, labor, lumber, store and cobbler accounts. Loose accounts in the volumes, many for George Barnhart, date to 1785. The volume also contain accounts for "coloured" citizens. A ledger of H. G. Barnhart, 1891-1911, contains cash accounts and estate settlement accounts for Gideon Barnhart. Orchard accounts appear on a few pages. The collection contains a five page account of H. G. Barnhart with Dr. T. C. Miller of New Hope, Va., for home visits and medicine, 1904-1909. The collection also contains a draft of a letter and a poem beginning "I am a brisk courageous Seaman..."
